Link Click knows what it’s doing with its cliff-hangers

I’ve watched this donghua (Chinese animation) three times now and even after a year it still hits just as hard as the first time. It absolutely deserves some more love, so here I am recommending it while also promoting my fanart (it’s the one above)! :’D

What is it about?

Here’s the synopsis from MyAnimeList:

"It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. In this case, it holds an infinite amount of secrets. These are secrets that only Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang are able to find. In a small shop called "Time Photo Studio," the two friends provide a special service: using their extraordinary powers that let them enter photographs, they jump into pictures brought to them by clients in order to grant their wishes. Through the eyes of the photographer, they live through the events surrounding the picture and try to decipher how to solve their client's request.

But every time they jump into a picture, they take a great risk. One wrong move and they could alter the future of the person who took the picture... and possibly countless other events too. So when the events they are forced to live through in these pictures start to become personal, it will take the utmost strength to push their feelings aside and focus on accomplishing the task they were paid to do."

I’m not usually a fan of cliff-hangers. They can be, and usually are, done in such a lazy manner similarly to how jumpscares are used. However, this show convinced me otherwise. The formula Link click has mastered works super well. The cliff-hangers combined with an absolute banger of an ending song creates a hype I personally haven’t experienced with a show in a long time.

Since the setting of the show has to do with taking individual cases the main characters solve, Link Click starts off with a very ‘monster of the week’ type approach. If you’re not a fan of this type of formatting (can’t relate, I’m a Doctor Who fan) fear not, because there’s a bigger plot in the background and everything is tied together rather brilliantly.

So yeah, go check it out! It’s only 11 20-minute episodes! It's very touching and a beautifully written story with a season 2 on the way.

If you're not convinced yet, just watch the opening! The animation is beautiful, you can't even argue with me there:

(Also if you decide to watch it, do it in the original language and not the Japanese dub. They dubbed the songs and it’s just not as good :’D)

Ps. If you know any really good time travel shows/literature, I’ll take any and every recommendation ^^
